Theresa Rose Strick Adamson passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026. She was born May 16, 1929, the second of eleven children of Alice and Joseph Strick, at home near Kirk, Colorado. She grew up with her parents and eight of her ten siblings in a three room house without any plumbing. The new house was built after she left home. They would go to church in Stratton once a month because it was 25 miles one way. (Not sure how they got all the kids and two adults in the Model A – long before seat belts were invented.) She made her first communion in Yuma with a couple of her cousins and one of her sisters. The family would go to the cellar when there was a dirt storm during the dust bowl period, sometimes remaining there all night. Even though the family was fairly poor there was always plenty of food from the huge garden that they raised as well as the chickens, turkeys, ducks, and cattle. Her mom always baked a cake for each of their birthdays. Every meal, the entire family sat together at 6:30 am for breakfast, noon for dinner, and 5 pm for supper. They sometimes canned a hundred quarts of green beans from the garden and anything else including meat such as guinea hens. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving because they would have a roasted turkey. She loved the turkey neck!

Can you imagine the change from a three room house with no plumbing, a model A and today’s computerization of the world, fast cars and air travel that has transpired during her life.

She attended Clark School for eight years and Kirk High School for four years. After school, she worked at Kirk grocery store. On November 18, 1947, she married the love of her life, Charles Dale Adamson, in Stratton at St Charles Catholic church. They went to work for Glen and Gerald Ethridge north of Laird. Three of their children, Patricia, Joseph, and Judith were born while living on the ranch. After they moved to Wray their fourth child, Robert, was born. She loved her children very much. She was the Cub Scout Den Mother for both of the boys and very active on the Catholic Altar Society. She supported her girls participation in 4-H. She was the accountant for Charles when he ran the Wray Oil Company, Dodge dealership and Chuck’s Service. They managed a U-Haul Franchise for fifty years. She helped mow lawns and manage the employees for Chuck’s Service. In the evenings she cooked at the Elks Club and the Sandhiller Restaurant. Every year she raised a huge garden and canned vegetables and fruit. She enjoyed sports and followed her kids as they went through school. Her hobbies were bowling, playing golf, and fishing, but she loved babysitting the grandkids the most. She loved seeing the great grandkids as they were growing up. The last fifteen years were spent enjoying the senior center with her friends and setting puzzles.

A highlight of her life was when their children sent them to Las Vegas for their 50th wedding anniversary.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles; sons, Robert and Joseph; her parents, three sisters, three brothers, five sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law, one daughter-in-law, one step grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
