Kent Albert Welp, age 61, of Greeley, Colorado was born December 5, 1964, to Dallas Albert Welp and Ramona Faye Chapman Welp. He was baptized at St Johns Lutheran Church in Vernon and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church. He passed away April 24, 2026.

He will be remembered for his contagious laugh, heard after nearly every comment he made. He loved working on the food truck with his wife and brother-in-law, but he would rush back to the farm every chance he got because you can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy.

Growing up, Kent was very involved in FFA, 4-H and wrestling. He graduated from Wray High School in 1983 and went on to receive his Associates Degree from Northeastern Junior College. He was first employed at L&L Implement in Yuma, Colorado. He then started farming west of Vernon.

On March 12, 1988, Kent married Dee and they moved to Greeley, where he spent his time working in the IT industry. Kent adopted Michael, and Chantelle was born into the family in 1990.

In 2013, Kent chose to follow his wife’s passion of the Slawpy Barn food truck where he finally learned to cook more than mac-n-cheese. When he was not busy with the food truck, he was eager to get back to Vernon to work side-by-side with his brother and nieces and nephews on the farm.

Kent was an avid Denver Broncos fan, loved classic rock music, saucy food, and being ornery. His family and friends will take comfort in knowing he lived life to the fullest. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas Albert Welp and Ramona Faye Chapman Welp, step-father, Ernest Crownover II, and sister-in-law, Alice Williamson.

He is survived by his wife, Delores “Dee” Welp; son, Michael Welp (April), and their children Boston, Decklan, Riley, Henley, and Mackenna; daughter, Chantelle Becker (Scott), and their children Savannah and Caroline; brother, Alan Welp (Marilyn); sisters, Judy Whitehill (Dean) and Pam Willecke (Mark); brother-in-law, David Williamson; step-siblings, Mike Crownover, Scott Crownover (Debbie), Cheryl Crownover, Crystelle Gilkey (Paul), and Ernest Crownover III (Jennifer); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
