Our beautiful wife, mother, and grandma gained her wings on the night of October 8, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona, and is now free of pain and suffering. Kathleen (Kathy) Williams was born on February 12, 1948, in Beloit, Kansas, to Paul R. and Joyce (Applegate) Williams.
Kathy spent her early years growing up in Osborne, Kansas. In 1956, she and her parents moved to Johnstown, Colorado, when her parents purchased the Johnstown Breeze. She attended school in Johnstown and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1966 as a member of the first class to attend all four years as RHS students. She was involved in many school activities, especially music, and was the pianist for the Johnstown Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Johnstown Chapter of Rainbow for Girls. During her junior high and high school years, she worked as a “printer’s devil” for her dad at the paper. This meant tearing down the equipment that printed the newspaper every week so he could publish the next week’s paper. It was a dirty job. After graduation, she attended the Seaton School of Nursing in Colorado Springs.
On March 25, 1967, she married Paul Neubauer, and they made their new home in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she worked for Mountain Bell. Later, they moved to Woodland Park, Colorado, where their son, Brian, was born. There they enjoyed mountain life, riding motorcycles (yes, Kathy rode her own) and taking camping trips with friends.
In January 1972, they moved back to the family farm in Johnstown, Colorado, where their daughter, Keri, was born. Kathy served as Mother Advisor for the Johnstown Chapter of Rainbow for Girls. She was also a member of the Johnstown Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Estrellita Club, PEO Chapter FG, and the Johnstown United Methodist Church. She worked for the Greeley Medical Group and Weld County Title Company.
Early one spring, Kathy told Paul, “I’d like to spend the summer helping you and the kids on the farm.” Well, Paul, being the gentleman he is, came home with a brand-new pair of irrigation boots and a shovel. She learned how to set irrigation tubes, shovel leads, and move gated pipe. By fall, she thought working in town was more her style and the pay was better.
In April 1985, the family moved to Wray, Colorado, where they farmed 15 miles north of town. Kathy decided once again that she liked working in town instead of on the farm. She worked for many years at the Wray Clinic. She later worked for Yuma County Social Services and then USDA Rural Development until her retirement in 2017. She was a member of PEO Chapter AA and Las Menores. She played in the bell choir and was an active member of the Wray United Methodist Church. Kathy also enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and bowling.
In December 2018, Kathy and Paul made a big move to Green Valley, Arizona. She enjoyed playing in several different board game groups. Her 50-year membership in PEO concluded with Chapter CA in Green Valley. She also enjoyed traveling in the motorhome, relaxing, and spending time with family and friends.
Kathy’s faith was very important to her and very private. Her greatest joy was her family, especially “The Boys,” Andrew, Kyle, and Myles, who brought her a tremendous amount of joy and pride. All three boys have great memories of spending time at Grandma and Papa’s house and getting spoiled.
Kathy is survived by Paul, her husband of 59 years; her son, Brian Neubauer of Wray, Colorado; her daughter, Keri (Ethan) Imhof of Johnstown, Colorado; her grandsons, Andrew Neubauer of Wray, Colorado, 1st Lt. Kyle Neubauer of Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Myles Carson of Wauseon, Ohio; two special people, Jeannie Neubauer of Wray, Colorado, and Bob (BJ) Lutz of Mount Victory, Ohio; her brother, Doug (Maricel) Williams of Las Vegas, Nevada; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her father-in-law, Ed Neubauer; her mother-in-law, Emma Neubauer Culver; and her stepfather-in-law, Carol Culver.
Services will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the Wray United Methodist Church in Wray, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kathy’s honor can be made to Friends of the Library c/o Jones Family Funeral Home, 427 Adams Street, Wray, CO 80758
