Karen Raynette Mullison Gunn was born June 26, 1956 in Wray, Colorado to Raymond Nelson Mullison and Trudy Wenger Mullison. She passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026 in Denver, Colorado.
Karen attended Wray schools graduating from Wray High School in 1974. She then attended Fort Hays State University, majoring in Education and earning a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology. Following graduation, she worked in schools in Kansas and then moved to Colorado, working in the Cherry Creek school district.
Karen met John Gunn in college at Fort Hays and they were married shortly after graduation. Their son Alex joined the family December 31, 1990.
Karen lived life to the fullest. She was a 50-year member of PEO and active in the United Methodist Church. She loved to cook, garden, spend time with friends, and travel the world. Her favorite destination was Switzerland where she visited relatives while exploring the Alps where her grandparents grew up. She also took many road trips across the United States with Alex, her sister Laurie and her mother Trudy. In addition, they travelled through Italy, France, and Switzerland together. Karen always braked for castles.
Karen’s pride and joy was her son, Alex, with her nephews Kevin and Ryan coming in a close second. She was a great caregiver, confidant, and best friend to her sister Laurie. In addition, she was an enthusiastic walker of Laurie’s dog Ollie.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister Janet. Surviving her are her son Alex, sister Laurie, brother Kent and his wife Maggie, and their sons Kevin and Ryan and her many extended relatives.
