Ivan Dwayne Bullock was born September 20, 1951, in Wray, Colorado, to Emery and Esther Bullock, joining his older sister, Lynn, and older brothers, Ralph and Les.
He lived a life rich with curiosity, craftsmanship, and deep devotion to the people he loved.
Dwayne was a man who found joy in the outdoors and in the work of his own hands. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time surrounded by the beauty of nature. A true craftsman, he took pride in woodworking and metalworking, creating pieces that reflected both skill and patience. You may even see one of his homemade metal rain-gauge men standing in one of his friends’ or families’ yards. His love for classic cars was lifelong, and he cherished every moment spent restoring, admiring, or simply talking about them. He was able to fully restore his 1966 Chevelle in recent years and took it to multiple car shows.
He valued time with family and friends above all else. Whether playing cards, sharing stories, or relaxing in his beloved man cave (where he always had a fire going in his stove), Dwayne created a space where laughter, warmth, and connection came naturally. His presence was steady, his humor easy, and his company always welcome. He even enjoyed cooking up his favorite homemade chicken fried elk steaks for friends and family.
Dwayne attended Wray High School in Wray, Colorado. Upon graduation, he went to automotive and diesel school and then he went to work at John Deere as a mechanic. He married Sue Trautman and to this union they had their son, Travis Dwayne. Dwayne taught Travis all he knows about the great outdoors, from hunting, fishing, and camping to horseback riding and snowmobiling in the mountains. Later Dwayne changed careers and entered the gas and oilfield industry, where he worked for numerous companies throughout the years. In 1995 Dwayne married Cindy Shepherd, welcoming her sons, Chad and Shane into the family. They built their home south of Wray and lived for many years on their “Happy Fat Ranch”. Dwayne and Cindy’s love for traveling took them to all the Extreme Points of the United States, including Maine, Minnesota, Florida, and Washington state. They also went to Hungary to visit their foreign exchange student, Adam Balogh. In 2018, Dwayne went on the hunt of a lifetime with his son Travis to South Africa.
Throughout the years, Dwayne had been a member of the Elks Lodge, a volunteer fireman for over 20 years, and an active member of the River City Cruisers Car Club.
Dwayne passed away at his home in Yerington, Nevada, on May 25, 2026. Dwayne’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, loved him, and shared in the many passions that made his life full.
Dwayne is survived by his wife, Cindy, his son Travis (Glenda) Bullock, stepsons Chad Shepherd and Shane (Alison) Shepherd, granddaughter Alayna Bullock, step-grandchildren Preston, Keenan, Parker, and Taylor Erker, and Alex and Audrey Farris, step-great-grandson Axel, siblings Les (Jan) Bullock, Ralph (Linda) Bullock, and Lynn Lotze, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emery and Esther Bullock, brother-in-law Roger Lotze, nephew Michael Lotze, and niece Melissa Bullock.
A celebration of life will be held on July 13th at 11:00 a.m., at Beecher Island Sunday School in Beecher Island, Colorado.
